When you want a fun, fresh look, pull out one of your scarves and try something different. You can play with a scarf and make an old outfit look new.

If you like to stay on trend with your fashion, stock up on scarves and learn a variety of ways to wear them. Switch up your look from the traditional scarf wraps to wearing them in unexpected ways.

Head Scarf Wrap

Whether you’re covering your head on a bad hair day or adding glam to your style, there are several ways you can use a scarf as a head wrap. You’ll need a large rectangular or square scarf for most of these methods.

Ways to wear your scarf as a head wrap:

  • Roll up a long rectangular scarf and wear it as a hairband. Tie it under your hair in the back or make a floppy bow on top of your head.
  • Fold a large square scarf into a triangle. Place the triangle on top of your head with the center point in the back. You can tie it beneath your chin or under your hair.
  • For a hippie chic look, wrap a rolled up scarf around your forehead and tie it on the side, letting the ends hang over your shoulder. You may also braid the ends of your scarf with a section of your hair.

Neck Scarf Wrap

Pull the eye up by creating drama around the face with a scarf tied at the neck. When it’s cold out, wear it close to your throat, and when the temperature rises, wear it a little looser.

Fresh ways to wear a neck scarf:

  • Dress up a solid color outfit by draping a long rectangular scarf or pashmina over your shoulders. Let the ends hang down the front and put a belt around your waist, over the scarf. Arrange the scarf for a flattering look.
  • Loosely drape a scarf over your shoulders and tie or clip it in front or on the side. You may opt for an asymmetrical look by pulling one side of the scarf slightly off one shoulder.
  • Drape a long rectangular scarf over your neck. If you have a collar, you may want to tuck it under the collar. Wear it loose or knot each end.
  • Weave a long skinny rectangular scarf through the links in a large chain necklace.

Scarf Wrap Belt

Draw the eye to your tiny waist by adding a colorful scarf. Wear it at your natural waistline, a little higher for an empire waist look or slung low on your hip for a more casual look.

Ways to wear a scarf at the waist:

  • Wrap a long rectangular scarf around your waist and tie it in a bow in front or back. You can spread it out for a sash look or roll it up tight.
  • Twist two different color scarves together and wrap them around your waist. Tie a knot or bow in the front or back.
  • Loop a long rectangular scarf through the belt loops of your jeans or pants. Tie a knot on the side and let the ends hang loose.

Other Ways to Wear Scarves

Be creative with your scarves and try putting them on different garments. Dress up a jacket by folding a small scarf into a pocket square. Loop a thin scarf through a button hole and let it hang or tie it in a bow.

More ways to wear scarves:

  • Wrap a scarf around the handle of your handbag and tie it in a bow or knot.
  • Turn your scarf into a turban for a high-fashion look.
  • Tie a small scarf around your wrist and add a brooch.

Scarves give you a limitless variety of looks. Wrap a long one around your head, drape one around your neck, tie one around your waist or embellish your handbag. Experiment and have fun with your scarves.
